Lower Back Tattoos

Lower back tattoos are very popular these days as they can be easily hidden or shown to the public depending on what the owner wishes to do. Because of its size and the relative lack of hair, the back presents an ideal canvas on the human body for tattoo artists to place large designs. Lower back tattoos are often Tribal or Celtic in nature, one of the most famous being the name "BROOKLYN" across the lower back of the footballer David Beckham, after the birth of his first son.

A tattoo on the lower back, when worn by young women, is occasionally called a "tramp stamp" or "California license plate" in American slang.

The lower back tattoo design is an enhancement of a sexually appealing part of the female body, and often serves as an adornment on female’s body. Interestingly enough, the curves and feminine shapes of a female's body all seem to converge in the lower back. Commonly compared to a hourglass, the lower back has a shallow curvature to it that fits well into the curves of a female’s back and the natural curves of her hips. Often a lower back tattoo design will be specially shaped to accentuate and flatter the 'hourglass' shape of the female figure.
